May 1st marks the beginning of Asian Heritage Month in Canada. Alarmingly, this celebrated learning opportunity is taking place in parallel with ever increasing incidents of anti-Asian racism and hate crimes<\/p>\n
(BURNABY) May 1, 2021- Today marks the start of Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to highlight the rich diversity of the Asian Diaspora and the extraordinary contributions of Canadians of Asian descent.<\/p>\n
United in diversity, Asian Heritage Month recognizes that Asian Canadians can trace their ancestries from more than 20 different countries, each with their own unique cultural fabric.<\/p>\n
Asian-Canadians have helped make Canada what it is today, in every aspect of society including in the arts, sciences, sports, business, and government.<\/p>\n
As we pause to remember the positive contributions that Asian-Canadians have made to our society, we also condemn the rise in discriminatory and racist behaviour, being committed against people of Asian descent.
\nWe all have a role to play in denouncing discrimination and xenophobia, and stopping the spread of racism, whether online, on our streets, in our homes, or in our workplaces.<\/p>\n
We can all do our part to learn more about the history of Canadians of Asian and work to end all incidents of racism, whenever, and wherever it occurs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
